Unfortunately, SaaSy doesn't allow the seller to sell advertising subscriptions, so anyone trying to simply transact ad buys on their own site with a purchaser, on a one-time basis or a recurring basis, is forbidden on SaaSy.

Hi, thank you for posting. It is one of the best posts on recurring billing on the web. Since, you have written the post some time ago I decided to compute again the pricing for all the service providers. To make the process transparent I have also included the excel file in my blog. You will find it here:

The ability to sign-up without having a US-based firm is a requirement for us. So far neither Stripe nor Braintree have international offerings (but are being worked on). And I am not sure about which other services support international merchant accounts, but it seems rather hopeless to go with anything else than local solutions or PayPal...

One service that I'd love to see in the comparison is AWS FPS: http://aws.amazon.com/fps/pricing/

Another one, that seems to be an underdog is Merchee.com, would be great to include as well.

Just for reference: there is a pretty good list of providers in this space in this article on Quora: http://www.quora.com/Subscription-Services/Has-anyone-compiled-a-comparison-of-subscription-billing-services-like-zuora-aria-recurly-etc

It doesn’t go into the details of each provider, but it’s a good list of companies that operate in this space.

We've been using Stripe and it was a cinch connecting our custom backend with their API. Great documentation unlike Paypal which was super confusing and too time consuming to setup. I like the fact that our customers never leaves our site. I give Stripe 5/5. Great application.

I can explain Justin's point, at least the first one...Braintree and Stripe are "Merchant Services Providers" that also provide a payment gateway that includes recurring payments. Whereas Chargify's, Recurly's, etc's product is the recurring billing component. That is one of the reasons that I am trying to figure out why someone would go with a "dedicated" service versus one that is included with the payment gateway.

Under a different post I mentioned that I setup Merchant Accounts and Payment Gateways, and inadvertently you may have answered my question, at least as it pertains to Braintree. There is something that I would like you to confirm for me, so I am sending you over an email within the next five minutes. I hope you do not mind letting me know if my suspicions are correct :)

I setup Merchant Accounts, Payment Gateways, etc...and I have been trying to get a handle on these 3rd party subscription billing services. What I am trying to figure out is that other than the card holder data portability concerns, what are the recurring payment modules contained within the payment gateways themselves not providing?
